The steps to obtain a Swiss driver’s license are:

Applicants must have taken and passed a ten-hour first aid course (Nothelferkurs/premier Secours). Buy Swiss driving license.

The theoretical driving test

In Switzerland, the driving exam is divided into two parts: the written and the practical. These tests are scheduled via the local Road Traffic Office (Strassenverkehrsamt/Office Cantonal des Automobiles & de la Navigation, or OCEAN) in your area. Provisional driving licenses

When the applicant passes the theoretical exam, he or she is granted an instructional driving license/permit d’élève conducteur. It is mandatory that a trainee driver complete a minimum of ten hours of first aid training in order to qualify for the theoretical test. In order to be able to conduct the first aid training, a firm must be certified by the Federal Roads Office (Office Fédéral des Routes) of Switzerland.

In order to apply for a learner’s permit, you must go to your local Road Traffic Office (Road Service / Service des automobiles et de la navigation).

—Two passport photographs in color — Current (less than 2 years old) OCAN-certified optometrist or physician certificate

The practical driving test

Who may take the practical test? Anyone who is at least 18 years old and has a valid learner’s permit. A learner’s permit is required for anybody under the age of 20 until January 1, 2021.

The candidate’s driving skills will be evaluated as well as his or her ability to properly park and maneuver a vehicle.

The following documents must be presented at the time of testing:

Identity proof (passport, residence permit, or ID card).
Permit for learning
Certificates of registration for the vehicle
There will be no photocopies accepted.
